This is the second 'live action remake' I've seen this year (after Beauty & The Beast) and this one is based on a 1995 full length Anime feature of the same name.
Ok IMDb, hit me with some knowledge.. "In the near future, Major is the first of her kind: A human saved from a terrible crash, who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world's most dangerous criminals."
This film looked impressive. It's future looked busy and congested. But also animated and awe inspiring. Holographic fish floated down the street while huge, 'building size', three dimensional advertisements sat comfortably amongst the cityscape..
Fair doos, you got to hand it to Scarlett Johansson. She's got a comprehensive CV when it comes to movies.. As well as her contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe she's had a couple of lower budget corkers too. She manages to hold this one together too. Unfortunately when it comes to plot this film has been done before in numerous variations.. Which is generally the case with modern Sci-fi. It's only when substance out weighs style do we get the truly outstanding movies.
Overall though, it was a visual feast, and I'm glad I saw it. ***1/2.
