Review Of 2017
Here we are again. This time I managed 78 films and all-in-all they weren't too bad..
Compared to last year there was a higher quantity of 4 star and above movies (38 compared to 32)
Ok, lets run through what I sat through..
The first film was one I was looking forward to - Assassins Creed.. Trailer looked good, it had the excellent Michael 'Magneto' Fassbender in it.. what could go wrong?
As the year progressed I managed to see Nine of the Ten Odeon Screen Unseen's. Again the majority were good-to-excellent, with the exception of one critically acclaimed pile of crap.. Unfortunately due to being snowed in(?!) I missed the 10th, 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri' which I'm hoping to catch later this year..
The Screen Unseens provided me with some of the years best comedy. Death Of Stalin, The Big Sick and Baby Driver (which I saw twice) were probably the best..
Horror was in short supply (or maybe I was just to scared to go?). The one's I did manage to pluck up the courage to see though were generally very good. 'It' was better than expected. Where as 'Get Out' and 'Happy Death Day' were also very funny..
Comedy was also prevalent in the the Super Hero offerings.. (well, the Marvel ones..) DC made a valiant attempt to seize Marvel's crown with 'Wonder Women'. But couldn't maintain the momentum with an 'ordinary' 'Justice League' (still a vast improvement on BvsS and Suicide Squad) Marvel nailed it though with 'Guardians 2', 'Spiderman' and the hilarious 'Thor Three' ..
As autumn/winter approached I was looking forward to this years Gravity, Arrival or Star Wars: Force Awakens. The summer had had it's blockbusters for sure (see Marvel) but no compulsory multi-viewers..
Then along came..
The film of the year for me.. If it had been shorter I might have gotten in a few more viewings..
But as it happened I (only?!) managed 6 times..
The film was beautiful..
The soundtrack was awesome..
Like alcohol it improved the more you consumed..
Of course it wasn't all awesome.. There was and always are turkeys, how else can you appreciate the good. As well as the above mentioned coma inflicting Assassins Creed and Florida Project, who can forget the sleep inducing, ironically named Sleepless. Plus there's the soft porn, bore fest that is Fifty Shades Darker. Gerald Butler said "f*ck it!" and stared in the Global disaster of a movie that was Geostorm, and last and definitely least was the eye bleeding, sack of shit that was Transformers 5.
Ok, enough of the crap, here's my top 10..
10 - Star Wars: The Last Jedi
09 - Wind River
08 - Spiderman: Homecoming
07 - Wonder Woman
06 - Baby Driver
05 - John Wick:Chapter Two
04 - Thor: Ragnarok
03 - Get Out02 - T2 Trainspotting
01 - Blade Runner 2049
