Blade Runner: The Final Cut

I know I've said this before, but this film needs no introduction..
Saw this one with my dad.. I remember going to see it with him back in 1982..
This print seems to be cleaner and even the special effects are sharper..

It's a 5 star movie..

Avengers: Age of Ultron

The third and final movie of the night.. This one jumps straight into the action as we find our Avengers chasing down members of Hydra. After Tony Stark has a dodgy vision he decides to create an artificially intelligent robot to take the place of the Avengers... And it all kicks off..

I'm not sure if it was down to the long evening but this didn't seem to do it for me.. Not like the first one. And seeing the first one earlier probably didn't help.. It seemed like they were trying to cram too much in... too busy.. It had it's moments and perhaps the second viewing might be better..

For now it's ***1/2.

Captain America:Winter Soldier

Still a bit long but enjoyable..
Having said that it may be too long because I'm waiting for Age of Ultron..?

Good Kill

Second film today and I was in two minds wether to see this or not..
It centers around Ethan Hawks Tom, an experienced piolet now 'flying' UAV's from an American airbase just outside Las Vegas. He's married to Molly (January Jones) and has two children. But all is not well in Toms world... He's suffering from a kind of post traumatic stress disorder and a borderline alcoholic. He misses the thrill of combat and, although he's the best at what he does he takes little pleasure in it. Slowly we see his marriage start to disintegrate..

This was an odd film. It seemed slow to get going... At one point I received a text off the wife saying "they're in town" and I was tempted to leave the screening and join them for a coffee..
Luckily I didn't and eventually the film paid off... Kind of..
In a way the film made the audience feel a lot like Tom... on autopilot.. There was some disturbing scenes but because they're 7000 miles away viewed on a small screen the impact was muffled (for want of a better word..). Once again Bruce Greenwood is excellent, and to be fair so are all the cast including Zoe Kravitz (whose getting better by the movie!)
Overall 3 desensitised stars..

John Wick

April's looking pretty good so far, this being the 7th film. Plus there's the excellent 'Bladerunner' to come (twice!) and another weekend in Cardiff, which should include 'Age Of Ultron'..
But in the meantime we have Keanu Reeves latest. In this one he's back to his 'Neo' persona after the pretty lame '47 Ronin'. Stop me if you've heard this one.. Keanu plays a retired hitman who is forced out of retirement when his car is stolen and his dog  killed (there's more to it than that, but bare with me..)  During the following hour and a half plus he goes about seeking revenge and basically killing a load of people.. mainly thugs..

Despite having seen this film 1000 times in various guises, my unfavourable synopsis above and the fact he ploughs through as many cliques as he does bad guys.... I kind of enjoyed it.. I know it's wrong to admit that but it did have a certain style. He dispatched thugs fast and efficiently.. The dialogue was ropey at best but I've seen (heard?) worse.. If it had been dragged the length of a 'Transformers' movie I think my patience would have been tested but at 1hr 41mins it was acceptable..
Overall an entertaining 3 1/2 stars...

The Spongebob movie:Sponge out of water

In my attempt to cram as many movies into the Easter weekend as I could I resorted to watching this little number... To be honest, I was entertained by the trailer and having seen the first Spongebob Movie this was on my 'to watch' list.

The cinema was pretty well empty as I collected my ticket from the dispenser so I took the lift to screen 8 on the 3rd floor. Again, no one around so I got my ticket ripped by the only person on that level and made my way into the 327 seat screen.. The fact I was the only one there was surreal  to say the least.. and then the movie started...
The plot goes something like this (..deep breath) Spongebob is happy working in 'The Krabby Pate' restaurant in Bikini Bottom when, during a failed attempt by Plankton (owner of the neighbouring 'Chum Bucket' restaurant) to steal the secret formula from Mr Krabs it disappears.. Both Spongebob and Plankton are blamed and consequently team up to find the formula and restore order to Bikini Bottom...
I remembered why I enjoyed the previous incarnation.. It was both the Ren and Stimpy style animation and the excellent writing.. For the first two thirds of the movies the the jokes came thick and fast and it's clear they were aimed way above their target audience.. The last 'live action' third is less funny and the gags are more slapstick for the Nicolodeon audience. There's a nice voice cameo from Matt Berry and I could have sworn one of the gulls was Alan Carr (not according to IMDB it is..)
Overall and entertaining way to spend 90mins on Easter Sunday.. Would have been four stars if the quality hadn't dropped off in the last third, instead it's a 3 1/2 Star movie..

Fast and Furious 7

It feels like ages since I last saw a film at the cinema.. March was pretty lame so I need to get the count up..

And so I find myself in Cardiff with 3 days to kill.. Should be a bonanza... Yeah, should be if the selection hadn't been so sparce... This one had potential..
