Star Trek: Into Darkness

Well that was an interesting start to the movie..
I was booked in to see the 10.20 Star Trek 2 in 2D and after grabbing a seat down the front in a fairly busy screening the trailers began... In 3D... sort of.. I put on my Iron Man 3D glasses and they erm... didn't really help.. it was as if they were showing two versions of the film, one slightly off centre... This carried on through the trailers and then in came the staff and handed out 3D glasses to everyone saying the movie is going to be in 3D.... It wasn't... After about 5 min they stopped the screen and in came a manager.. This debacle went on and eventually I ended up in screen 6 watching the 11.30 2D version..

Anyway, enough of the wining and on with the film.
I enjoyed the previous Star Trek reboot. It had humour and a certain charm with nods to the original series.  This one basically continues with that tone. I like Benedict Cumberbatch and consequently I was slightly nervous that I wouldn't appreciate him as a bad guy. And, true to form I felt my self sympathising with him instead of fearing him..  This though didn't effect the film overall, which I enjoyed. And for once Simon Pegg was almost the star of the film..! It was well paced and the effects were as expected for a movie of this budget. Also I liked the way it was almost a mirror of 'The Wrath Of Khan' (which was my favourite Star Trek movie of the franchise..)

Will I catch it again..? Probably..

Overall a solid (not as good as Iron Man 3) ****
